THEDACARE MEDICAL CENTER- ORTHOPEDIC, SPINE AND PAIN

ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain opened in July of 2022 as the region’s only hospital dedicated to these specialties. The facility offers comprehensive care including diagnostics, pre-surgical preparation, surgery, pain management, and rehabilitation. From a foodservice perspective, the project included a kitchen, retail serving area, and dining room. The kitchen was designed to produce meals for both patients and public. Patient rooms are equipped with tablets that can be used for meal ordering and communication with the medical team. Patients are served using the roomservice/on-demand model where they can order meals at any time during designated hours. These meals are prepared fresh in the kitchen and delivered to patient rooms.

During the design phase, the foodservice team emphasized the importance of the servery due to the anticipated high volume of outpatient activity at the facility. Not only did the hospital have a clinic attached, it was also directly adjacent to the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center and the Encircle Health clinic where foodservice options were limited. Hence, the goal of the OSP servery was to offer a more extensive menu to meet the needs of visitors, staff, and patients within the building and adjacent clinics. The servery boasts a full-service coffee shop/deli, a versatile action/entrée station, and a spacious grab & go area. Additionally, the foodservice department provides pre-packaged to-go meals for patients in recovery who are unable to shop or prepare meals on their own.
