AURORA SHEBOYGAN MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER
This project was designed to provide patients with a top-notch experience, elevating their stay in the hospital. By focusing on streamlining back-of-the house operations and optimizing current technology, aiming for an efficient process from start to finish. Additionally, quality service levels were improved upon so that visitors feel like they’re dining at a restaurant rather than located within a healthcare facility.
Another goal included utilizing the foodservice and dining facilities to be both visually appealing and a source of guidance for visitors. With display cooking techniques, hospital patrons can experience greater variety when it comes to their mealtime options.
The design process began in 2017, while the equipment planning and program validation process following 2018 to 2019, and construction officially started in summer 2019. Fast forward to April 2022 — the coffee shop/gift shop opened its doors, marking an exciting milestone. And finally in July 2022 it was official – the facility had been transformed into something truly special, a completed hospital with brand new Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).
As the project progressed from the initial stages, some adjustments needed to be made. “The space we ended up with was smaller than what we had programmed,” says Rochelle Monahan, MBA, RD, Associate Principal. “We had to efficiently lay out all of the spaces and make the most of every square foot we had. For example, the dish room got a little pinched on the clean side, so we added a blower dryer to the dish machine to help dry the dishes faster so they could be moved back into circulation.”
The kitchen at FNS provides additional support for surrounding counties by supplying 15 free-standing clinics with general floor stock supplies, plus the two satellite retail kiosks located at both the Sheboygan Clinic Coffee Shop and Plymouth’s.
