A One-Stop-Shop for Athletes

The 110,000 square foot addition to the Bergstrom Football Training Facility at historic Jack Trice Stadium, includes a state-of-the-art sports nutrition center to serve the Cyclone Football, Soccer, Softball, Golf, and Tennis teams. ISU understands the link between performance on the athletic field and a combination of proper nutrition and athletic training off the field. Designed in a collaborative effort between the athletic department’s dieticians, ISU’s third-party stadium foodservice operator, and Rippe Associates, this standalone facility includes receiving, multi-level storage, full production kitchen, as well as a made-to-order Grill, a Carvery station with smoker, an athlete-curated Sauté’ station, as well as a full buffet station to serve both the salad and daily entrée functions, as well as a breakfast bar. These spaces also double as banquet spaces for large recruiting events, as well as for events for donors on Game Day weekends.

Also included in the project is a 1,600 square foot Fueling Station, featuring healthy grab-and-go options, protein shakes and smoothies, and recovery beverages, available to athletes 24 hours a day. These locations were designed to aid the athletics nutrition team at ISU to improve the diets of student-athletes with food-forward displays, customizable culinary-driven menu platforms, as well as digital monitors to help remind athletes on what to eat for their specific training diets, as well as portion sizes and other nutritional information to help them track their daily progress.

“The Stark Performance Center has taken our nutrition department to new levels and has been able to offer our student-athletes something they’ve never been offered here at Iowa State before. —Erin Hinderaker, Director of Sports Nutrition
